Finding Something You Lost

This activity explores what it feels like to lose something precious to you. In this activity, the facilitator acts as the rainbow caretaker who has lost the rainbow. The children then help the caretaker to find fabric pieces of the rainbow and stitch it back together.

This unit of work was created by Peter O'Connor.

This learning experience draws inspiration from a lesson taught by Kathleen Warren at a Drama conference in Auckland in 1988.  For Peter, who wrote this lesson, it taught him the power of drama to engage children deeply with story. Nga mihi Kathleen.

Check out this professional development video for an example of how the learning experience was facilitated.

An interview was conducted with Helen Hansen - a teacher at Somerset Kindergarten in Palmerston North - in which she shared her experience facilitating the Finding Something You Lost learning experience.
